| | I think the Apple lifestyle has gone to my head. I sit here in Starbucks, with my sleek PowerBook and hardly pay attention to the trickle of customers. What’s a mom with a stroller and a homeless woman busy tearing up papers to me when I’ve got things to write about? What I do notice is the girl who plops down next to me and opens up her PowerBook. I casually turn my head to get a better look. She’s using the 12” version. Cute. I’m drawn to her instantly. Hmm… she’s typing just as fast as I am. Sexy. She gets points.
I struggle with Rendezvous, trying to establish a Bluetooth chat connection with her machine. “Unable to connect to Rendezvous. 6:04 pm.” Damn. The help file sucks too, naively telling me to login into Rendezvous to start a chat. Of course I know that! It looks like I will have to be a brute and actually approach her in person.
One sip of my Latte and… she gets up, walking across the café and runs into the holiday promotional stand. She looks dazed, as though she didn’t even see it there. Damn. She had so much going for her until just then. I ease off my state of “readiness” and think silly thoughts about what she’d be like if she was not such a clutz. Would we buy our kids iBooks? |
